Shiloh Capiak - Research & Reporting Intern summer 2023

Shiloh Capiak is a driven student and journalist. Her passion for the field has been evident from a young age. She is the editor-in-chief of her school’s publication, The Talisman, a role which has allowed her to hone her skills and develop a unique, fresh voice for storytelling.


Shiloh began working for the Des as a reporting intern in June 2023. After reading Michelle Alexander’s “The New Jim Crow,” Shiloh became increasingly interested in criminal justice and social reform, a passion which drew her to The Des. Shiloh is enthusiastic about making her own mark in the realm of criminal justice through her work with The Des. With The Des, she aspires to channel her passion for journalism into driving positive change. By reporting on the intricacies of the criminal justice system, she aims to shed light on injustices and provide a voice to the marginalized.


Fueled by her love for storytelling and inspired by the need for social reform, she hopes to make a significant impact in the realm of criminal justice through her dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment. Shiloh hopes to harness the power of journalism for positive change and productive conversations.
